Watanabesahei Sake Brewery is a traditional Japanese sake brewery at the foot of the Nikko mountains and close to UNESCO World Heritage registered shrines and temples. Take a tour of this small, family-run sake brewery that has been preserving the tradition of making sake since 1842.
Watanabesahei Sake Brewery focuses on producing Junmai-shu, rice sake with no distilled alcohol.
The owner is welcoming and speaks very good English!
Watanabesahei sake brewery was founded in 1842 at the end of the Edo Period (1603-1868), and has been producing sake for about 180 years. Our current owner is the seventh generation of our family.
For the past 50 years, the brewery has focused on Junmaishu, pure rice sake. Currently, about 90% of the sake we produce is Junmaishu, which is rare in Japan.

We’ve been brewing sake since 1842, the end of the Edo era, mainly making Junmai pure rice sake with clear natural water from Nikko in the cold winter. I can speak English and enjoy taking guests around the brewery, teaching them about the sake culture. I hope you can visit our brewery soon and taste the various types of products we have.
